Privacy Policy
Effective September 16, 2026
Fixiv Solutions, Inc.
Fixiv helps you identify the appliances in your home and stay on top of the maintenance they need. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Fixiv iPhone app and the fixiv.app website (together, the "Service").
The short version
- We collect only what the Service needs to work: your account details, your home's address, the photos you capture of your appliances, and your maintenance tasks.
- During a video walkthrough, the video itself never leaves your phone. On-device detection selects still frames of appliances, and only those frames are uploaded.
- We use the images you capture to improve Fixiv's on-device appliance recognition, after sanitizing them. You can turn this off at any time in Settings: we stop collecting new images from you and remove the ones you already contributed from our training data.
- We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- You can delete your account, and all data associated with it, from inside the app.
1. Information we collect
Account information. Your email address and a password (stored only as a salted cryptographic hash), or your Apple ID identifier if you use Sign in with Apple. If you hide your email through Apple's private relay, we receive only the relay address. Your name, if you share it through Sign in with Apple or add it to your profile; we use it to address you in the app and in email, and it is never required.
Home information. The street address, city, state, and ZIP code of homes you add. We use the address to determine your climate zone so that seasonal maintenance tasks are scheduled correctly, and we convert it to coordinates using a geocoding service (see Section 6) and keep those coordinates with the home. This is the location of the property you told us about, not of your phone: the app never asks for or reads your device's location.
Appliance photos and walkthrough frames. Photos you take of your appliances, and still frames captured during video walkthroughs. During a walkthrough, recognition runs on your device; the raw video is never uploaded and is not stored. Only individual frames that the on-device model flags as likely appliances are sent to our servers for identification.
Appliance and task data. The appliances Fixiv identifies (brand, model, type), the maintenance schedule generated for them, tasks you create, and your completion history.
Subscription information. If you subscribe, the purchase is processed by Apple. We receive subscription status (for example: trial, active, expired) through our subscription management provider. We never see your payment card details.
Diagnostics. If the app crashes or encounters an error, we receive a crash report (device model, OS version, app version, and the technical state of the app at the time). Crash reports are not used for advertising or profiling.
Support communications. If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.
We do not collect your contacts, your device's location, your browsing history, or any data from other apps.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to operate the Service: identifying your appliances from your photos, building and adjusting your maintenance schedule, sending transactional email (confirmation, password reset, home invitations), processing your subscription, securing accounts, and fixing bugs. We also use captured images to improve our appliance recognition model, as described in Section 4.
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
3. On-device processing
Fixiv is designed to do as much as possible on your phone. The walkthrough feature records video only into your device's memory; an on-device machine learning model scans it in real time and extracts still frames of appliances. The video is discarded on-device and never transmitted. Identification of the appliance in each frame (brand, model) is performed on our servers with the help of an AI vision provider (see Section 6).
4. Improving our appliance recognition model
We use sanitized versions of the appliance images you capture to train and improve the on-device recognition model that makes Fixiv work. Before any image enters our training data, it is processed as follows:
- Metadata is stripped. All embedded metadata, including location data, timestamps, and device identifiers, is removed.
- Images are cropped. Each image is cropped to the bounds of the detected appliance, removing the surrounding scene.
- Images containing people are removed. Any frame in which a person is detected is excluded from training data and deleted.
- Images are resized. Cropped images are downscaled to a small, standardized resolution suitable for model training.
How training images are kept. Training images are not stored under your name or email address. Each is tagged with a pseudonymous contributor code that we generate for your account, and the code is what lets us find and remove your images if you ask us to. We keep that link deliberately: an image we could not trace back to you would be one we could not remove for you. Training copies are cropped to the appliance, stripped of metadata, and downscaled, and they are stored separately from the photos you see in the app.
Your choice. You can turn off "Improve appliance recognition" in Settings at any time. When you turn it off, we immediately stop adding your images to our training data, and we remove the images you already contributed: the records that place them in the training set and the training copies made from them are deleted. The photos you see on your own appliances are not affected. Turning this setting off does not affect any feature of the app.
Deleting your account. When you delete your account you choose whether your training images are removed or kept. If you choose to remove them, they are deleted along with your account. If you choose to keep them, they stay in the training set under your contributor code, and we keep a small deletion record (the code, the email address the account used, the date, and your choice) for the sole purpose of honouring a later removal request from you. You can email us at any time after deletion to have them removed.
One limit we want to be clear about. Images contributed before July 2026 were recorded without the contributor code, so we cannot reliably identify which of them are yours. We cannot remove those on request, and we will tell you so rather than report a clean sweep. Everything contributed since carries the code.
This setting is on by default for users in the United States. The Service is currently offered in the United States; if we make Fixiv available in regions that require opt-in consent for this kind of use (such as the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), the setting will be off by default there and we will ask for your permission first.
5. How long we keep information
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account, homes, appliances, tasks | Until you delete them or delete your account |
| Appliance photos you keep on an appliance | Until you remove the photo, the appliance, or your account |
| Draft appliances never confirmed | Deleted automatically after 365 days |
| Training images you contributed | Until you turn off "Improve appliance recognition", delete your account choosing removal, or ask us; otherwise for as long as they are useful to model training (Section 4) |
| Deletion record (contributor code, email, date, your training choice) | Kept after account deletion only when you chose to keep your training images, so a later removal request can be honoured; deleted when the images are removed |
| Crash reports | Retained by our error-reporting provider for 90 days |
| Support email | Up to 2 years after the issue is resolved |
When you delete your account in the app, your account record, homes you created, appliances, photos, and tasks are deleted, and your training images are removed or kept according to the choice you make at that moment (Section 4). Homes that other people share with you are not deleted; your membership in them ends. Residual copies in encrypted backups are overwritten on the backup rotation schedule (no longer than 30 days).
6. Service providers
We share data only with the providers below, only so they can perform services for us, and only the minimum each needs. We have agreements with each that restrict their use of your data.
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| DigitalOcean (US) | Cloud hosting, database, and image storage | All service data |
| Anthropic (US) | AI analysis of appliance images to identify brand/model | Uploaded appliance images; not used by Anthropic to train its models |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple; subscription billing; address autocomplete (Apple Maps) | Apple ID token; purchase records; address text you type when searching |
| RevenueCat (US) | Subscription status management | A pseudonymous account identifier; subscription state |
| Sentry (US) | Crash and error reporting | Device/OS/app version; technical error context; your account identifier. Not your name, email address, IP address, or the contents of your requests |
| Mailtrap (Railsware) | Transactional email delivery | Your email address and message content |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim | Converting home addresses to coordinates and verified address parts | Home address |
We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months. We do not "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by the CCPA.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users, or as part of a corporate transaction (in which case this policy continues to apply and we will notify you of any successor).
7. Your rights and choices
We extend the following to all users, wherever you live:
- Access and portability. Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, in a machine-readable format.
- Correction. Update your account information in the app, or ask us to correct anything else.
- Deletion. Delete your account in the app (Profile > Delete Account), or ask us to do it. This removes your data as described in Section 5.
- Training removal. Turn off "Improve appliance recognition" in Settings, or email us after deleting your account, and your training images are removed (see Section 4 for the one limit on images contributed before July 2026).
To exercise any right you cannot exercise in the app, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days (45 days for California requests, with notice if we need an extension). We will verify the request using your account email. We will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
California residents. The CCPA/CPRA gives you the rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. You may designate an authorized agent to act for you. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes requiring a right to limit.
We do not respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals because the Service does not track users across third-party sites in the first place.
8. Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using TLS. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and are never stored or logged in plain text. Data is stored with access controls limiting it to the systems and personnel that need it, and production access is restricted and audited. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but minimizing what we collect in the first place is our primary defense.
9. Children
Fixiv is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. In jurisdictions that set a higher age of digital consent (up to 16), that higher age applies.
10. Where data is processed
Our servers are located in the United States, and the Service is currently offered in the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, you understand that your information is processed in the US. If we expand to regions with data transfer requirements, we will put the required safeguards in place and update this policy.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at fixiv.app/privacy and update the effective date. For material changes, especially any change to how we use your images, we will notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect, and where required, ask for your consent.
